MUMBAI: January
1-7 every year is observed as road safety week. Currently,
Road Accidents account for a majority of the casualties
in India. Road accidents have become the number one killer
with newspapers reporting casualties everyday across the
nation. The number of road accidents and casualties can,
to a very large extent, be reduced if people follow simple
traffic rules. IL&FS Transportation Networks Ltd along
with Radio Mirchi 98.3 FM & Traffic Police have thus
decided to make an attempt to create public awareness of
road safety measures through their initiative on road safety
called the ‘IL&FS Transportation road safety week’
By dedicating the first week of January 2010 (January
1-7) to road safety, IL&FS Transportation along with
Radio Mirchi 98.3 FM & Traffic Police we aim to educate
and appeal to the radio listeners to follow the simple
rules of traffic in their daily life for their own benefit
thereby hoping to significantly reduce these unfortunate
happenings
As part of the drive, Radio Mirchi will appeal to the
citizens of Mumbai through various platforms such as RJ
Mentions, Daily themes etc. This activity is being carried
out across 7 cities-Mumbai, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Baroda,
Rajkot, Surat and Jaipur
Quote from IL&FS Transportation:-Says Mr Mukund Sapre
Executive Director-The 21st Road Safety Week will be observed
from 1st to 7th January 2010. The purpose of the ‘IL&FS
Transportation Road Safety Week' is to make people understand
the importance of road safety. ‘Road accidents’
is, today, one of the major causes of human casualties
and injuries. A WHO report titled “Global Status
Report on Road Safety” released this year
states that approximately 1.3 million people die each
year on world’s roads. As per National Crime Records
Bureau statistics for 2007, approximately 13 people are
killed every hour in road accidents in India.
Quote from ENIL- Mr Sriram Kilambi-Sr VP & Station
Director-“Radio Mirchi being a city centric radio
station has always been a step forward in finding solutions
to problems prevalent in the city. With ‘Road Safety
Week’, we want to drive home the importance of a
road safety, so that citizen’s are able to experience
a safe life. We need to consciously address this fatality
and make people aware of the road safety measures”
