Parentage

ITNL benefits significantly from its affiliation with IL&FS, which has an established track record in promoting and financing a range of public infrastructure projects in India for over 21 years. IL&FS was incorporated in 1987 and its shareholders include Life Insurance Corporation of India, Central Bank of India, State Bank of India, Housing and Development Finance Corporation Limited, Abu Dhabi Investment Authority and Orix Corporation of Japan.



In view of our strong parentage, experience gained in implementing the above-mentioned projects and the capabilities being developed by us, we are well positioned to benefit from expected growth in vehicular traffic in India and demand for additional surface transportation infrastructure in India and other countries where we have presence.

IL&FS’ activities can be broadly classified into the following:

Infrastructure Initiatives
IL&FS has been specifically mandated to implement Infrastructure projects on a commercial format with minimal recourse to budgetary allocations. Over the past decade, IL&FS has been actively engaged in creating and developing frameworks to enable commercialisation through the ‘Public Private Partnership’ model. The unit has expanded its scope both horizontally across sectors, and vertically in specialisation. It has also gained proficiency in the various aspects of Infrastructure development on a commercial format. IL&FS has contributed to the private sector participation in public infrastructure projects by way of an advisor, investor, and most importantly, as a promoter.

Core Infrastructure
IL&FS has promoted and participated in several projects across sectors. It prides itself for being environmentally and socially friendly; and has gained tremendous expertise in the area. It has significantly contributed to:

(i) Surface Transport and Transportation Systems
(ii) Water Supply & Sewerage Projects
(iii) Power Sector
(iv) Telecommunications and
(v) Social Infrastructure

Social Infrastructure
This sector covers health, education, sanitation, urban amenities and recreation - elements important to sustain, provide for and empower a better quality of life. The initial focus is on networked learning and tele-education, as well as niche health services. This is with a view to promoting the use of information and communication technologies to enhance delivery and reach us such services.

Project Development Partnerships
IL&FS has developed excellent working relationships with several state governments to jointly develop public infrastructure on a commercial format. It has entered into a Project Development Partnership with the state governments of Andhra Pradesh, Goa and Himachal Pradesh. Further, it has established the Project Development Corporation of Rajasthan. These initiatives have made tremendous progress; and there are now a large number of projects on the anvil.

Further IL&FS has developed expertise in the area of Environment and Social Management of public infrastructure development. All IL&FS projects meet stringent World Bank requirements relating to environment and social issues. This expertise has been domiciled in the entity IL&FS Ecosmart Limited.
